Another Beautiful Day on the Rubicon

I got out yesterday with a few fellow members of the Tahoe Donner 4-Wheel Drive Club.

Finally, a casual day on the trail with no timeline or maintenance to do. I did throw out a timeline of everyone home by dark. (We failed that one). And I was updating the Tahoe side to do list.

It was a chilly morning but that’s why almost all of us had our doors and tops back on our Jeeps. There’s always on guy, with the longest drive to the trailhead that decided to go topless, but he had soft doors on.

Just above Morris Rock or The Stpes.

This is dropping down Morris Rock. You just can’t understand from the picture how steep this feature really is; you need to experience it.

So, you probably figured out that I followed Don down Cadillac. Not too many picture options. This is Don turning past The Notch.

Again, such a beautiful day on the trail. The weather was great and the dust was minimal. While we were having lunch, Treavor from WFO pulled in next to us on his way from Loon to Tahoe. Single rig doing a video for a December release. Look for us.

Yes, we kept the same order going back up Cadillac. Don getting through the S-Turn above the lower hairpin.

And since I had Don going down The Notch, I had to get him going up The Notch.

We turned on the Barker Meadow OHV Trail 16E76.

Then on to 16E79.

After airing up at the trailhead, we drove out to Highway 89. Along Forest Road 03, all the way out to 89, the Forest Service has contracted out to thin the trees.

And they had dropped a lot of trees! This is from the short road up to the parking lot at Kaspian.

We thought we had made it unscathed. Just past Sunnyside, we had a transmission coolant line let go. Not mine. AAA was on the way.

Again, I updated the To Do list so check out that link. I’ll try and get FOTR to set a meeting to prioritize that list, so we know our marching orders for the Spring.

Get out there and wheel. Be aware of the weather as it changes quickly for the worse this time of year.
