Prescribed Fire – Blackwood Canyon???

In a previous post, buried at the end, I showed pictures of a ton of logs and tree debris piled up at the entrance to Blackwood Canyon. I’m all about thinning out forests. Go, Forest Service. Thin along the paved section of the Rubicon Trail!

The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit posted on Facebook about some prescribed burns taking place this week. They mentioned Burton Creek St Park and Sugar Pine Point St Park. I had trouble putting in the link.

From the Facebook post:

TFFT Fall Prescribed Fire
The following Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team prescribed fire operations may take place the week of Nov. 2, 2026, pending all required approvals. We estimate this work will continue through fall and winter as weather, conditions and staffing allow.

Prescribed fires help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.

Prescribed fires planned for the area include:
November/December 2026: CSP
California State Parks is scheduled to conduct prescribed understory and pile burning on approximately 118-acres in Burton Creek and Ed Z’Berg Sugar Pine Point state parks, as conditions, staffing and weather permit.

They did not mention Kaspian Campground at the entrance to Blackwood Canyon.

I’ve got an email into my guy at the Basin for details.

I might have to drive up tomorrow.

If you’re in the Basin this week, be aware that there will be smoke.
