LTBMU goes overboard

RUBCION TRAIL CLOSED within Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.

I get there are fires across the west but that is no reason to close public lands tens of miles away.

As far as I know, and I just checked, the Tahoe National Forest has not been closed. And that’s in between the Eldorado and the Basin.

No photo description available.
May be an image of map and text that says 'Exhibit C: West Shore Area, Road, & Trail Closure 15N35 Granite Chief Wilderne 03 15N38 15N38 Lake Tahoe Û PACIFIC 2021 BACKCOUNTRY & WILDERNESS CLOSURE USDA Forest Order No. 19-21-05 Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit Closure 0.5 Stream/River: Perennial Waterbody LTBMU Miles Boundary Forest System Map August LTBMU'

I’m going to reach out to local authorities to challenge this decision.

Jeepers Jamboree closure dates -2021

Sorry they are late to be posted.

My understanding is that every year Jeepers jamboree gets a “parade permit” from El Dorado County. This allows JJ to close the Rubicon Trail for exclusive use by their participants. The trail is open to the public Midnight to 6am.

Let’s be clear, this is an El Dorado County closure only. All trails within Placer County are open for public use.

That being said, I would urge users to stay clear due to the sheer volume of vehicle coming out, specifically on those Sundays.

SPI properties are closed

I got this through a mountain bike thread. Not sure what is around the Rubicon but good information to know for those going out later in the summer.

SPI Forestlands Closed to Public Access Due to Wildfire Danger

Due to extreme drought and wildfire conditions, Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) has closed most of forestlands to public access. These closures will remain in effect until further notice. Public roads that are on SPI forestlands will remain open, but no walk-in access will be allowed. For those looking for maps of SPI property lines, there are several third-party applications available for purchase.

All California forestlands, closure effective Mon., June 21.

Washington state forestlands in Clark, Cowlitz and Lewis counties, closure effective Thurs., July 1. At this time, SPI lands in Pacific, Skagit, Snohomish and Whatcom counties remain available for non-motorized recreational access.

Blackwood Canyon parking options

With the staging area closure June 21-25, access will be through Blackwood Canyon to the north about four miles.

The paved parking at Highway 89 is for the Kaspian Campground right there and day users. FYI, that is also a winter park area, permit required during the winter. Blackwood Canyon is a popular snow mobile area. There is OHV parking further up the canyon.

So, about two miles up the canyon, stay right onto the dirt road (15E38), before you go over Blackwood Creek:

At the Blackwood Canyon Campground, there is limited parking, pit toilets and maybe a dozen campsites that require reservations.

The drive up 15N38 is not difficult but you have to pay attention. At the top, there is more parking. This parking is accessible by driving the paved Forest Road 03 all the way to Barker Pass summit.

16E79 is marked with good signage. In this photo, you’re looking down Forest Road 03, the pit toilets for the Rim/PCT is off to the right at the white vehicle, 16E79 is off to the left. The Rim/PCT is visible to the lower left by the sign.

If you choose to take the really easy way to the Rubicon, stay straight on Forest Road 03. In two miles, look for the freshly downed tree on the left, that will be the sign for the left turn you need to take to get on to Forest Road 03-04. And that runs all the way to the Rubicon. 16E76 The Hobbit Trail, will be a right turn off 03-04 and is easy to miss.

There will be an effort to get sandwich sign boards out on the trails to mark the turns needed to do the reroute.

Rubicon Open!

It took someone driving up to the trailhead to figure this one out. There are no barricades or road closures along the route to the Loon Lake entrance.

Thank you to Rusty Folena of RTF for making the drive.

The Eldorado National Forest has not confirmed this anywhere. Hopefully they will mention it in their Twitter update tonight at 6pm.

I’m not sure how to tell you to find that live update as I don’t do Twitter but it will probably get posted on the Rubicon Gazette Facebook page very soon after it ends.

No overnight camping and no open flames. Day use only.
