Rubicon closed?!?!?!
Posted: September 22, 2020 Filed under: Access, Travel | Tags: closure, fork fire Leave a commentThe Eldorado National Forest released the update below this morning:

There was no mention of the Rubicon Trail open or closed, so I called the fire information line listed on the update.
I was told the Rubicon Trail was CLOSED.
So, I called Vickie Sanders and left a message. That was 10:18am this morning (9/22/2020). I emailed RTF and they said they were “going with the information they were given”. Which was the Rubicon was open. That doesn’t help the guy who drives up there and finds a barricade.
This is a major agency communications cluster. I’m trying to get good information so people know what is going on before heading up to the trail.
As soon as I get HARD information, I will post it.
Stay tuned,

Rubicon OPEN?!?!
Posted: September 21, 2020 Filed under: Access, Maintenance, Travel | Tags: closure, fire Leave a commentI reached out to RTF about the closure this morning (9/21). They got in touch with Vickie Sanders of El Dorado County. She called the Eldorado National Forest.
12:15pm 9/21/2020: We think the Rubicon has formally been reopened.
When someone publishes something firm, I will add it to this post.
It appears that the Rubicon Trail will be the southern / eastern border of the Fork Fire closure. But that has not been confirmed.
Stay tuned. Sorry I don’t have firm information for you.

Fork Fire Closure
Posted: September 21, 2020 Filed under: Access, Travel | Tags: closure, eldorado, fire Leave a commentThe Rubicon Trail is currently CLOSED within the Eldorado National Forest. Ice House Road is closed north of the intersection of Wentworth Springs Road.
The Eldorado National Forest has issued a closure for the area around the Fork Fire for through November 30th. It’s HUGE and way bigger than it needs to be.
I do not see ELD-147 and ELD-63 (and the side trails) listed in the closure order. But with Ice House closed, we can’t get there.
I’m trying to deal with facts and evidence to back it up. Here is a link to the video of last night’s meeting. At about the 24 minute mark in the video below, the question is asked “is the Rubicon open” and the answer is no, not within the Eldorado Forest.
This closure is wrong. The area is too large and I see it as an attack on OHV.
I don’t know how we should push back on this closure but we need to push back and in a very strong manner.

Helicopters beat trailers
Posted: September 20, 2020 Filed under: Maintenance | Tags: cadillac, maintenance, rock Leave a commentHere is a link to an upcoming article about using helicopters to transport rock and heavy equipment on the Rubicon Trail.
This is the same company contracted to fly rock this October in to Cadillac Hill. Although it is quite expensive, it is less expensive, quicker and easier on our Jeeps that using small Jeep trailers.

Rubicon OPEN!
Posted: September 19, 2020 Filed under: Uncategorized Leave a commentBoth the Eldorado National Forest and El Dorado County have declared the Rubicon and the forest open as of 8am this morning. The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has also reopened.
The reopening of all things Rubicon and our nearby forests does not reduce the extreme fire dangers within our forests. Open flames of any kind are still restricted.
Be fire smart.
